The first installment of “Knives Out” came bursting onto the scene in 2019 and audiences loved it. Boasting an incredible ensemble of a cast, the murder mystery whodunnit would be talked about to this day in regards to its mystery, laughs, performances, and the flooding of memes to come. Fast-forward to 2022 and here we are in the franchise, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Returning is Mr. Benoit Blanc himself, Daniel Craig, in what seems to be another hilarious performance, especially since all eyes are on him this time with no fellow investigators to aid him. For myself, man am I excited to see what’s next.
“Famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece for his latest case.”
First and foremost, I am so happy for Daniel Craig. For the second time now, his character of Benoit Blanc is a hilarious role to see done. Craig seems to be having so much fun with this post-James Bond character, and I love that for him. After so many years in the iconic Bond role, he has more time and creative freedom to go down different avenues regarding his acting career, and Benoit Blanc is the new showman to take the world by storm.
I seriously hope Rian Johnson keeps these movies going. This formula can work each time with refreshing the cast and presenting a whole new whodunnit murder mystery, while of course bringing the ever electric Benoit Blanc back to solve said mystery. Rian has the secret stuff when it comes to making these movies fresh and fun. A sure fire hit each time, whether it comes to theaters or is bought out by Netflix as this one was.
While debates can be had on which “Knives Out” movie has the better cast, one thing is for certain: both casts have an incredible depth of talent. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t favor the first “Knives Out” cast, but “Glass Onion’s” is nothing to sleep on with the likes of Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, and Kathryn Hahn. The list goes on and on. This list is all heavy hitters, and those heavy hitters kicked ass, making “Glass Onion” a damn good time at the movies.
Hopefully most of my readers have seen the first film. If not, GET ON IT! But otherwise, if you’ve seen the first you almost have to see “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Not just for Daniel Craig getting more screen time, but for the same movie fun as you can expect to get with this series. While it’s in theaters, I’d highly recommend catching it because the bigger the better, but for those that enjoy your home screening, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” comes out on Netflix on December 23, 2022.
