Director: Zach Cregger

The Intro:
Ah, my favorite kind of watch and review. “Barbarian” came at me like a hurricane where I first saw the trailer only about a month ago. Masked in complete mystery, the trailer gave me little to work with and I loved it. To say I was intrigued was an understatement and I was elated to give this a view.

IMDb Summary:
“A woman staying at an Airbnb discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems.

The Oberrating:
LET’S GOOOOOOO!!!! Give me monsters, give me comedy, give me twists, give me turns, give me camp, give me mystery, GIVE ME IT ALL!!! “Barbarian” is a just a damn good horror-filled time at the movies. As I just said, a fan can have it all. This flick blends it all for a perfect run time and doesn’t waste a second.

“Barbarian” keeps its ensemble nice and tight. With a focus of about five characters, you shouldn’t get too lost in keeping track of who’s story is being told.
First off, I loved the use of Bill Skarsgård. Right off the bat, I know at least this was me, when I saw his name and that face in the trailer, I thought I was in a world of hurt. Pennywise himself? Shiiiit, this was gonna be good. As I said, excellent excellent use of Bill.
Miss Georgina Campbell, what a talent. A wonderful lead who carried this film to the finish.
Justin Long, I mean, c’mon. Justin has a long history in Hollywood and anyone that knows this man knows he’s bringing the comedy. Long in “Barbarian” brings exactly that, and maybe add some extra asshole vibes too.

If I could complain about anything, it might be the campy-ness of “Barbarian.” However, while some of it felt a bit whack, some also added to the fun and comedy. On top of that, we have some typical dumbass decision-making in this movie, and that always rubs some people the wrong way, me included.

The Wrap-Up:
MOVIES! “Barbarian” is kickass! As I said, there’s plenty that work perfectly for this movie and best of all, it came out of nowhere which made my experience stellar. The easily jumpy will probably jump, the more hardcore horror lovers will find plenty to appreciate as it did with my buddy Evan, and those that like their movies blended with multiple genres will find love here as well. Get a look at “Barbarian” sooner than later. I promise it’s gold.

Rating: 4/5
