Peanut Butter Falcon

Requested Review from AJ Cepeda!

The Intro:
I am glad this film landed in my requested reviews. “The Peanut Butter Falcon” is a 2019 release that did not get too much attention due to a limited release and not too much marketing. However, for the eyes that did catch it, the reception was quite positive. My early assumptions are that I am going to enjoy the movie but hey, let’s see!

IMDB Summary:
“Zak runs away from his care home to make his dream of becoming a wrestler come true.”

The Oberrating:
Sometimes, an overall feel-good movie is exactly what you need. Horror, action, thrillers, and all the other flicks are all well and good but “The Peanut Butter Falcon” is a proper adventure movie that is set for mass audiences to enjoy. While the story (or the IMDB summary) does not sound too enticing, do not be too distracted. The meat and potatoes of the movie and that “feel-good” vibe truly comes from the performances of Shia and Zack.

As I said, I am to the moon and back in admiration of Zack and Shia. Zack is an utter delight throughout the entire damn film. His comedic marks hit perfectly on every point. Shia is as Shia as ever with a rough and tough free spirit type guy and I love it. These two have home-run chemistry with each other and it absolutely carries this film from beginning to end. Despite what seems to be a silly story, it is a wonderful one when seeing things from the perspective of the character, Zak. When this duo is struggling, I found myself struggling. When the duo is happy and celebrating success, I was applauding with them.

The Wrap-Up:
There truly is not much for me to dislike with “The Peanut Butter Falcon.” Besides some side show plots that do not contribute to the main story all that much, at its core, I love Zak’s purpose and the chemistry of Shia and Zak bouncing off each other. I wish this movie got more attention than it did because it surely deserves it. Shia LaBeouf continues to be one of my favorite underrated actors in the game and Zack Gottsagen, you are a gem.

Rating: 3.5/5
