It took me too long to put this review out so I am turning it into one of my Oberrated Quickshots.
I was sold on this movie from my first sight of the trailer. I figured it would have been a hilarious and mysterious whodunnit movie that was sure to keep me entertained from start to finish. With an original picture like this, of course there is the chance to come out disappointed but I retained my optimism.
“Knives Out” boasts quite the production and actor cast. At the head is director and writer Rian Johnson who, depending on your point of view, infamously and/or famously directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Surrounding him is an unreal cast such as… *takes a breath*… Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, and the list can still go on! Right from the start without even watching the movie, this diverse and large cast catches the attention of many different style movie goers appealing to indie fans, big budget, TV fans, old Hollywood and new Hollywood fans. Personally, I find this quite the perfect move to bring bodies to seats.
So the preview hype attracted me but how did it fare post-view? Well, I would say pretty damn good. “Knives Out” was great fun throughout its duration. It may have slowed down just a tad in the middle portion of it but overall, the laughs and entertainment never stopped. While I would say Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas stole the show as my favorite pieces of the entertainment, I do not want to take away any attention from the rest of this star-studded cast. Everyone was absolutely hilarious in their own devious ways. Also, while I do wish we had some more screen time for individuals like Jamie Lee Curtis and LaKeith Stanfield, they still put their best performance forward.
With twists and turns, mystery, suspense, and laughs. “Knives Out” is one of my most fun times at the theater this year. Whether you manage to catch it in theaters or wait it out for your home pleasure, this is a movie any movie entertainment fan should watch at least once!
- If Chris Evans could play snarky douchebags for the rest of his acting days, I’d be perfectly fine.
- Toni Collette is my fuckin FAVORITE
- Jaeden Martell and Katherine Langford were pleasant watches for me. I’d love to see more of them in Hollywood beyond their known roles.
- I’m kicking myself for not finding the time to do a spotlight post on Ana de Armas. I’ve been calling for her blow up for some time now.
- The attention to detail by Rian Johnson and company is immaculate. I recommend looking up articles and videos about what went into this film beneath the surface.
