The Break-Down:
– I can’t deny it, “Deadpool 2” was crazy hilarious fun. I practically was laughing throughout the whole film. Ryan Reynolds was born for the role and I could watch this day in and day out.
– “Hereditary” took my world by storm. I am a mega fan of A24 studios and especially their horror flicks. “Hereditary” blended so many horror elements together and created a true masterpiece.
-“Black Panther” edges out “Avengers: Infinity War” just by a slight margin due to too much happening in Avengers. Despite Avengers being an absolute marvel of a film, “Black Panther” was more cohesive and smooth for my liking.
-“Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” released just on 12/28/2018. Without hesitation, this film skyrocketed to the top of my list, both entertainment and overall quality. This is a groundbreaking style of film. Something video games have been doing for a bit but a first for film/TV shows. It is immersive, it is gripping, it is truly something special.
“Crazy Rich Asians”, despite being a romantic comedy, it felt like something completely new and refreshing. Even beyond being something quite special and entertaining, this film hit home for me.

The Break-Down:
-As I said before, “Hereditary” is something ground-breaking. This film sat with me for weeks after my view. It remains to be my favorite film of the year.
-“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” was not only an entertainment thrill ride, it goes beyond that and becomes a high octane and high-risk film that most action films do not dare to reach. This film is the new standard for action films.
-“Eighth Grade” is one of my films that took the biggest jump in comparison to the entertainment ranks. This film felt like nothing else I have seen before. Director Bo Burnham created a coming-of-age film within the modern day era of phones and social media. We as older adults think we may know how the kids are growing up but after this film, one would truly know. “Eighth Grade” is an awkwardly beautiful film to watch.
-For as absolutely insane as “Mandy” was, those of you may understand, this film was a psychedelic beauty of a film. Carefully analyzing the film as more than a drug-induced revenge flick, “Mandy” dives way deeper than presented and is capable of being an endless conversation piece. Not to mention this score was phenomenal thanks to the late Jóhann Jóhannsson.
