THE TIME IS FINALLY HERE!!! Sorry, my geek might show just a bit during this review but really though… Ten years in the making, 18 films in the universe (not counting numerous TV series’ and one shots/short films), and countless questions that may finally be answered. “Avengers: Infinity War” is the 19th film that ties them all together and we as fans are exuberant to say the least. So, at this point I feel that y’all know exactly what we are getting into. It is time for one of the most anticipated films in film history to get Oberrated.
“The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.”
By the film’s end… wow, just wow. “Avengers: Infinity War” is a lot to take in. It is going to require multiple screenings, from my perspective. It is basically everything I could have wanted in most aspects. My friend Matt asked if I was going to do a spoiler and non-spoiler review and I think I may have to in order to address everything. So, as always, this review is spoiler free. For the spoiler heavy, click here.
As for now, there are a couple things I want to address. One is this story. Clearly with such a large cast, you should not expect everyone working on the same mission and on the screen at the same exact time. We see our heroes scattered yet working toward their unified goal: To stop Thanos. Despite many jumps to accommodate every story being told, this was not too distracting and it was entertaining in every way. As we as fans have come to get excited about in the past, the most exciting times were seeing our heroes that usually fight solo, team up for the first time. In regards to the story, I practically have nothing negative to say about it besides something I would want to touch on in the spoiler review. Otherwise, strong all around.
A common element I usually talk about with Marvel films is the humor within them. As this is also a hotly debated point within Marvel films is that the humor is too “childish” or unnecessary. For me and “Avengers: Infinity War”, this is the first film in a while that I felt all the humor was proper as it was delivered from the correct characters. Not too much, not too out of place. The comedy was just right and hilarious as ever.
I have one glaring thing that represents a negative point on “Avengers: Infinity War”. This point involves the characters. While it is not that there are too many but rather that some are far under-utilized or even pointless in some cases. No name drops, no spoilers but that was one big thing that I took into consideration while watching the film. I understand that is as expected when dealing with such a large cast of mega characters but just not my cup of tea.
This film changes the game. You can make your predictions, you can make your theories, you can do your very best to prep yourself for this film. “Avengers: Infinity War” is a constant barrage of in-your-face moments that will leave you stunned, cheering, crying, or just all the above at the same time. There is not one dull moment in this 2 hour and 29 minute film. Prepare yourselves for the future of Marvel and all its possibilities.
