TRA-LA-LAAAAAAAAA… Here we are yet again errybody with a Oberrated requested review from my dear friend, Matt Casey. He was so wonder-struck and in love with this film that he demanded at my door step that it should get an Oberrated review!… Okay, well maybe that is not entirely true but he did request it and he was quite adamant about me doing so. Well, here it is!
Here we have an Oberrated Review on ‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie’! Starring the voices of Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, and Nick Kroll!
“Two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold, hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.”
Mr. Casey anticipated a seven or eight out of ten when we spoke about this film. When he first told me that I thought to myself, “How in the hell is the Captain Underpants movie going to impress me enough to warrant a 7 or 8?” Those are gracious numbers in my ratings book. Well let us break this down and see if he is right…
‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie’ was impressively funny. Nothing had me rolling in my chair but there was plenty to make me smile and feel happy after the dust settled and I walked out of my theater. It is a solid blend of humor for its target demographic of young children who want to see some potty humor but also for the parents taking their kids to see the film and well, myself as a young adult. With plenty of clever quips about adult life as well as pop culture references, let alone the title itself playing with ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, the comedy within this film is funny and fun enough to contend with a lot of comedy films released within this year.
Another aspect of the film I thoroughly enjoyed was the animation within it. Everything looked great while the real film was going on and even on top of that there was the “FLIP-O-RAMAAAA” and sock puppet segments that even were entertaining to watch. With all things considered, these definitely added to the experience on the positive side.
As far as a thorough critique on the film: It is a kids movie! You want me to break down the plot and the voice acting and so on? C’mon now. It is fun, the plot is silly, and the comedy is great! If you expect me to give a Oscar nominated breakdown or something, that would be over doing it. This is a fun film that is entertaining for all ages.
‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie’ was an overall funny and entertaining experience. Not only is this a fun film for kids but it is fun for any age demographic. There are plenty jokes for the youngsters and plenty jokes for the adults and ultimately, it is fun for all ages. For a movie titled Captain Underpants, it is impressively done well from its humor, to its animation, as well as its production. To be completely honest, I hope this is the start of a fun series that has a plethora of possible sequels in its arsenal. Take your kids, take your partner, take your dog. ‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie’ is a fun and mindless ride from start to finish.
